Author of the MonthWe finished reading Leo Lionni books for the month of November. We visited the Random House website about Leo Lionni and were able to watch a couple of short videos explaining how he made his drawings and what he was like growing up. It was very interesting.
Character CountsThe character counts pillar for the month of December is “Caring.” Please have your child wear red on Fridays throughout December.
Comprehension Strategies
We will be working on sequencing events, monitoring and clarifying.
Vocabulary Words
Our vocabulary words will include question words: who, what, when, where, why and noise words.
We will also work on the words: car, hold, their, walk, down, must, scrub, hurt, hear, learn, and would.
Phonics Skills
We will be working on triple clusters (scrub, strap, split, etc.). We will also review short “u” words.
Grammar Lesson
We will work on asking questions both orally and in our writing. Actions words, (verbs) will also be reviewed.

Winter Holiday PartyOur holiday party will be on Friday, Dec. 17 from 2:00-3:00. Parent helpers will be allowed in the room at 1:50. (No siblings are allowed due to limited space.)
Holiday Gift ExchangeThe first grade classrooms will not be doing a gift exchange this year. Our class will be having a book exchange as a part of our party. A separate note was sent home by our room mother explaining the guidelines.
